We had a very successful week last week. We had our first Art session, where we experimented with lots of different art mediums, based on the art patterns from Niue. You can see us in action above.

We also had a Science performance in the hall, and enjoyed basketball as a class on the courts on Friday.

Daerue and Phoenix were both celebrated for showing manaakitanga - kindness, empathy, and responsibility towards caring for others. They received certificates in assembly for their wonderful treatment of others.

There was more manaakitanga shown today at school - Levi made a makeshift sling for his injured classmate to rest his arm in out of his jumper, despite the chilly weather. Others supported him as he recovered after his fall.

Who in your class has shown manaakitanga (kindness and responsibility) towards others lately?

Holiday update!

I hope you are having a GREAT break, even though this weekend has been very rainy.

If you are stuck inside and a bit bored:

Phil set up this holiday blog challenge that you could take on. Upgrade your blog, increase interest for your readers, and learn some new skills!

- Discuss the upcoming film festival with your family. What creative ideas could you design a film around? Tell them about the examples we looked at with Phil in class.

- Complete your holiday reading logs - just one week left to do your required reading! 15 minutes a night before you sleep will clear your head, help you sleep AND build your brains.

- Practice your timestables - which one of our classroom games could you play to challenge your brothers and sisters?

End of Term Two - already!

We had a fantastic final week of school, which we capped off with the disco on Friday! It was a lot of fun, and we enjoyed hanging out with our Kauri team in the hall. You can see some snaps of us in action below.

We are very proud of Remy and Litiane, who received certificates for all their efforts in class during our Kauri Team Assembly on Thursday. Tino pai to you both!

Have a fantastic break everybody, see you refreshed and ready for another busy term in two weeks!

Daerue cutting shapes on the dance floor - definitely one of Room 8's most dynamic dancers!

What changes would you make to Auckland?

We had a fantastic discussion in class last week.

During our class novel, which was about the Christchurch earthquakes in 2010-2011, our protagonist Maddy visits an expo with her family in the city. The idea of the expo was to give people the chance to have their say, and share their ideas about what they wanted to happen with the rebuild in Christchurch.

We then asked the question:

'If we had an expo like this in our area (Mt Albert) or our city (Auckland) what changes would you recommend to make Auckland a better place?

In the comments, we will add our thinking for our wider audience to read and review. Feel free to read our comments and reply to them!

Outstanding Year 6 certificate winners this week - and a quick question for our Mangapapa and St Pius friends!

Congratulations to Jarvis and Rita, who were awarded with certificates in yesterday's assembly.

Room 8 played well in our Kauri Team sports afternoon, with two excellent games of Rippa Rugby against Room 25 just before assembly started.

What is one of your favourite sports or games to play as a class?

Time to think critically about our novel!

You could check Remy's, Jarvis's and Zac's blogs, as they have posted their completed Relationship Charts about the characters. This may give you further ideas!
